Just sketch out an idea of how the motif you researched might connect to one of the themes in the play. I think you can do it on your own, but if you need some help, try Shmoop.com and look up themes. Roughly 50 - 100 words should do! Thanks

The motif sleep connects with guilt and consequences. When one is guilty of a crime the person begins to lose sleep over his/her crimes. The consequences to these crimes could be a variety of sorts but sleep stands out here as well. One can stay up all night just thinking about their guilt and crimes, letting these feelings hurt and come up with thoughts of the ill-minded.

The motif of the inability to be clean (washing) ties in with the theme fate vs. free will because Macbeth simply cannot change his fate no matter how many people he killed. In fact, him attempting to change his fate just gives him guilt, shame, and the inability to feel clean. Leaving him with the very stains that make his fate come true.

Manhood/masculinity directly correlates to the theme of gender. The ideals of manhood set up how specific gender roles have specific emotions and traits. Gender roles are challenged in the play when cretin characters have different traits that go along with the different genders such as Macbeth's kindness as Lady Macbeth says or Lady Macbeth's masculinity when she is brave and brutal.

The motif of blood relates to the theme of ambition and lust for power. Because in today's sense to rise to power one must figuratively "cut a few throats," back then it was literal. Macbeth had his uncontrollable thirst for power so he killed who ever he thought would oppose him, causing an excessive amount of blood spilled.

The motif of sleep can be connected to the theme of guilt in the play of Macbeth because almost throughout the entire play the guilt of any character made them unable to sleep. Macbeth swears that Macduff will die and then he will finally be able to sleep in spite of the thunder: "Thou shalt not live;/That I may tell pale-hearted fear it lies/And sleep in spite of thunder" (IV.i.84-86). The thunder Macbeth was speaking of was the guilt of his passed murders. Lady Macbeth also begins to sleep walk when consumed by her guilt. This is why I believe the motif of sleep can be connected to the theme of guilt in the play of Macbeth.

My motif, blood, connects with the theme, guilt. The motif of blood continues through out the play developing intense guilt in Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Both blood and guilt overwhelm Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.

Repercussions of one's actions is one of the many themes in Shakespeare's play, "Macbeth." Sleep, or lack there of, is one of the motifs that directly connects to this theme. In Shakespeare's "Macbeth", Macbeth is an ambitious man who commits murders to become king of Scotland. His first consequence? Loss of sleep.

The motif of masculinity in MacBeth is very closely related to its theme of gender. Several times during the play, characters are described as lacking or taking on masculine properties when they fail to fill or attempt to fill, respectively, roles then commonly attributed to men.

My motif was when Lady Macbeth was praying to take away all frailness of a woman and make her strong for the events to come. I think that this motif related to the theme of being man. If she is to help Macbeth carry out a murder, she will have to be remorseless.

Blood relates to the theme in MacBeth of guilt and regret. The blood on the hands of the king slayer MacBeth, that he claims cannot be washed away by all of Neptune's oceans, is symbolizing his guilt. Lady MacBeth says to her husband a little water would wipe away the blood, and the guilt, but later in the play she shows that even though the blood is gone the guilt still remains.

I can really connect to the motif of traitor in the play of Macbeth. The theme betrayal is really common in friendships in our era. For instance, many people stab people in the back, lie, and cheat, just to get the upper hand in our society. My personal experience was with a best friend that I had since Kindergarten. She stabbed me in the back and didn't even want to confront me about it, where as in Macbeth there was actual stabbing. *joke* Comments are closed.
