NY Times Bestseller List (I've specifically linked to their YA Bestseller list, but you can easily navigate to best selling fiction, non-fiction, e-reader, and paperback lists. Always up to date.
Here is the Modern Library's list of top 100 classics. You just can't go wrong here (except maybe by trying Ulysses (#1) without a professor and maybe some Dublin ale to get you through.
Missing from this list though is all the great classic chick lit: anything by Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, or George Eliot; I don't recall Charles Dickens either. Bah! Find another Classics list.
